A generous terroir

Ideally situated northwest of the town of Saint Emilion, bordering on the Pomerol appellation, La Dominique has 29 hectares of remarkable soil adjoining the region's most famous vineyards: Cheval Blanc, Figeac, La Conseillante, and L’Evangile. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted on an extension of Pomerol's clay-gravel plateau in the northern part of the estate. Thanks to the warm gravel, the terroir there is ideally suited to this late-ripening variety, whereas the clay contributes density and concentration to the wine. In the southern part of the estate, the clay-limestone subsoil, typical of Saint Emilion, is accompanied by blue clay that accounts for the wine's tension, finesse, and minerality.

Generous stewards of their terroir

The Fayat family's clear ambition is to be in tune with their terroir. In order to do this, the La Dominique team has been restructuring the vineyard since 2006, making sure to adapt grape varieties, clones, and rootstocks to the patchwork of different soils.
